Hello,

We are Myles & Virginia (Gin).

We are here to ensure you or your loved one have your lives enhanced, by our CAREGivers attention to your care needs.

Our Home Instead Senior Care office is a family run business. We have a passionate belief that people should be able to stay in their own homes for as long as possible. We both saw our Grandparents end their days in residential care and don't believe there were sufficient alternatives for them to choose from. We certainly don't want to see our parents face a similar situation.

I (Myles) faced the difficult responsibility of ensuring the best care for my mother, who lived in the UK, whilst she battled cancer. Home care options were limited at the time and it was very difficult ensuring my mother's wish to stay at home, until the end. If Home Instead Senior Care had been around then, things would have been a lot easier!

After starting life in the hospitality industry, followed by a stint in food media, I spent seven years in corporate management roles that were really not satisfying my desire to do something truly worthwhile. 

After gaining my Bachelor of Arts degree at Flinders University, I (Virginia) started my working life as a Japanese interpreter working for Hamilton Island resort. I have also lived and worked in Japan, initially as a high school student on exchange and later as an ESL teacher, which I continued to do on our return to Australia. I then provided care for a number of children in their pre-school years, in my family day-care business, which I set up when our boys were little.

When we found Home Instead Senior Care and realised all the personalised care this business could offer our local community, it had immediate relevance to our lives and beliefs. 

Our team are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so we can guarantee our clients care needs are always met.

We hope all our clients are enabled to live happily in their own homes through the support of our well trained CAREGivers providing quality care to enable this; for as long as possible!

To us, this really is personal.

Gai Stewart

Client Services Representative

Gai had previously excelled as a CAREGiver with Home Instead, culminating with her becoming our CAREGiver of the year for 2014. This allowed her to gain valuable experience which she utilises to enhance her role as Client Services Representative. She has professional experience of running a family business with her husband for 10 years and working in public relations, amongst other roles.

Gai spends most of her time out of the office networking with health care professionals and other industry related specialists, ensuring they are kept abreast with all that is happening at Home Instead Senior Care. She also spends time talking to seniors groups, community clubs and other community organisations so that they are aware of the private care solutions available to them. 

Gai is an avid traveller and says favourites include Scotland and Italy.  Although she will tell you after she and her husband purchased a caravan, "Australia is just perfect"! In her words, courtesy of Banjo Paterson, ”and at night the wondrous glory of the everlasting stars”.

Sharon Wyatt

Care Manager

Hi Sharon here; I am the Care Manager at Home Instead Senior Care Brisbane South and Ipswich.  I have had a career in the public and private sector that spans more than 30 years; working with and for the community, in a variety of sectors ranging from Local government, volunteer services, aged care services (private & not for profit) as well as establishing my own business and managing other multinational businesses.  Working with People is my passion. 

I was born in Plymouth, England but migrated to Adelaide with my parents at the age of 7.  The beautiful lifestyle, weather and environment of Queensland beckoned to me and I moved to Brisbane 8 years ago.  I have 2 children and in April 2016 I saw the arrival of my second grandchild.  I live with my partner and a menagerie of dogs, birds and fish. I love to visit new places in and out of this beautiful country. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, reading, writing, holidaying and SCUBA diving .

Home Instead Senior Care has given me the opportunity to work with an organisation that truly believes in empowering our older Australians in a way that enhances the lives of our clients and our CAREGivers and aspires to address the individual and national challenges of Australia’s ageing population.

Donna-Jo Ratcliffe

Administrative Officer

Hi Everyone!

My name is Donna, and I’m lucky enough to be the Office Administrator for HISC South Brisbane.

I was born and raised in Bundaberg and Childers, and after graduating high school I settled in Brisbane and began working as a seamstress and embroiderer. During that time, I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and found that using my sewing skills as a career wasn’t what I wanted in life.

A few years down the track (and feeling much healthier), I found my way into Home Instead Senior Care and I’ve never been happier! Many of my family members have worked in Aged Care, and when I was younger I helped my Dad with Palliative care for my Grandpa – that’s why I’m so glad that I can be a part of the Home Instead team.

I live in Chelmer with my partner, where I love to spend my time designing my own clothes, working on classic cars (we’re currently working on my ’77 Mercedes Benz!), creating all sorts of wonderful crafty things and of course, playing with my cats – I’m a bit of a crazy cat lady.

Having suffered from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in the past, I understand just how important “care” really is. I know what it’s like to have to rely on others to help you care for yourself and I’m glad I can work with such an amazing group of people who are so dedicated to improving the lives of others.

I’m so excited to see where my career with Home Instead takes me!

Kyungja Cha

Accounts and Payroll Officer

Hello, my name is Cha. I am originally from Korea where I grew up until our whole family (husband and 18-month old toddler) moved to Sydney. I had a bachelor degree from Korea, worked there for about three years as a project assistant officer and foreign exchange dealer for a business conglomerate and then two years as an office coordinator for Hyundai petroleum project. 

While in Sydney, my second son was born who has become my ‘vitamin’ since then. As mother of two, I undertook another bachelor degree here in Brisbane, studying accounting. I used to work as an accountant for a horticultural business before I joined Home Instead.

I am happy to become part of Home Instead whose business engages in promoting happiness in life and directly contributes value to our inter-connected society where we all belong to each other and are one family within. I felt from Day 1 that the catchphrase “to us, it’s personal” and the embedded culture go well with my personal value and I still try to infuse that motto into my day-to-day activities here.

I am passionate about yoga and I plan to have that life style in my retirement. My goal is to be able to comfortably stand on my palms or elbows, which, I am pretty sure, would break my arms at the moment!

I also love to observe and take photos of beautiful patterns and dynamic aspects of Nature. Far in the future, I dream of living in Tibet or Nepal for a couple of years, teaching English to local people and doing a daily hiking along the Everest highlands.
